Power loom workers stage protest in Faislabad for better working conditions


Hundreds of power-loom workers staged a sit-in outside the deputy commissioner’s office here to press for their demand of appropriate raise in their wages.
Protesting power-loom workers associated with the Labour Qaumi Movement (LQM) staged a nine-hours long sit-in protest outside the DC office.
Addressing the workers their leaders said if their demands not accepted they will go to protest in the province.
The district administration Faisalabad has summoned a meeting of the power-loom owners on Tuesday (today).
The workers’ sit-in suspended traffic on the District Council Road. The deputy commissioner held talks with workers and assured them to solve their problems.
The district administration has summoned a meeting of stakeholders today to discuss the matter and take decisions.
In February the power-loom workers had protested against working conditions in Faisalabad and demanded of the factory owners to stop using weavers as oilmen, loaders and cleaners and issue them social security cards.
Talking to reporters, workers said that in response to their lawful demands the factory owners closed their units two weeks back.
